Cuban Leyanis Pérez achieved her first victory in a Diamond League triple jump final last Friday. Reports JIT
The Pinar del Río native, who finished fifth at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, marked 14.37 meters on her second attempt, enough to claim the coveted gem.
Jamaicans Shanieka Ricketts and Ackelia Smith with 14.22 and 14.11 meters, respectively, escorted the young Cuban athlete, just 22 years old.
The bronze medalist from Budapest 2023 thus completed her successful run through the diamond circuit, as she had succeeded in the stops held in Eugene, Stockholm and Monaco, and was second in Silesia before completing her reign in the Belgian capital.
Her performance this Friday should close her competitive calendar for this year, which had among its most outstanding moments the conquest of the silver medal at the 2024 Glasgow Indoor World Athletics Championship.
For this Saturday is the closing of the 2024 Diamond League with a program that among its main attractions includes the men's triple jump final. In that event, Cuban presence will be repeated through Lázaro Martínez, one of the six announced candidates.
