Cuban judoka Iván Felipe Silva Morales, the reigning champion in the 100-kilogram category at the Central American and Caribbean Games, is confident he can defend his title at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, scheduled to take place in Santo Domingo from July 24 to August 8, 2026.
Silva, born in Matanzas on February 8, 1996, is one of Cuba's most decorated judokas of recent years. His record includes a silver medal at the 2018 World Judo Championship in Baku, four medals at the Pan American Games (2015, 2019, and 2023), and five continental titles at the Pan American Judo Championship between 2014 and 2024.
The athlete, who was finalizing preparation details when he spoke to the Cuban News Agency, said the motivation of defending his regional title is an additional stimulus to approach this new edition of the Games with maximum focus and competitive form.
