Cristina Saralegui reappears on social media after withdrawing from cameras due to rare illness.
Days before celebrating her 76th birthday, Cristina Saralegui reappeared in the media spotlight. The iconic host was seen surrounded by influential friends, who are major personalities in Miami.
With her appearance on social media, the Cuban has once again sparked suspicions of a possible return to television. Especially because according to the images, she spent time with producer and musician Emilio Estefan, journalist María Antonieta Collins, producer Luz María Doria, and Telemundo's president of entertainment and content strategy, Ronald Day. The photo also shows her husband Marcos Ávila.
The Cuban brought back fond memories to her followers of the "Cristina Show," which came to an end on October 9, 2011. Many recalled that her departure from Univision was linked to disagreements, however the fact that she had stayed away from the public eye was not because of that, as she revealed in an interview she gave sometime later in which she admitted to being in poor health.
Saralegui told People Magazine that her retirement from television was practically forced by Univision because they wanted to give the concept a rest. As a result, she suffered a severe bout of depression. And some time later, she was operated on for a brain condition because she had ataxia, a disease that, in her case, caused her to accumulate water in her brain, but that's not all because according to her own words, she also experiences a rare type of arthritis.
"I have a form of arthritis that is very rare. It's genetic and it's rare. They give me a new experimental medicine that is an injection in the leg and Marco gives it to me; I've been getting that injection for two years and it has helped me enormously because you have to dare not only to get vaccinated against COVID-19. You have to dare when your doctor tells you: 'Look, madam, you have a chance to improve with this experimental treatment.' I give him my leg and I give him my arm because I do dare," she said.
For now, Cristina has not responded to her followers about whether there is a possibility that she will return to hosting.
