Cuban cyclist Arlenis Sierra, captain of the Astana Women's Team, was the best of her club at the Giro dell'Emilia, in Bologna, Italy, finishing today in 11th place in the 98.8-kilometer race among 27 teams.
The 26-year-old from Manzanillo finished 24 seconds behind the leader, Demi Vollering, from the Valkenburg team, who won with 2:26.35 hours, in a razor-thin finish alongside Elisa Longo Borghini, of Trek Segafredo.
Nikola Noskova, from the Bigla team, finished third, six seconds behind Vollering, according to the official race results.
In addition to Sierra, Cubans Yeima Torres and Heidy Praderas also competed for Astana Women's Team.
Torres finished in 92nd place, 3:17 minutes behind the leader, and Praderas in 116th, at 4:16, in a race with 147 cyclists, of which eight did not finish the event.
In the sixth edition of the Giro dell'Emilia, Colombian Liliana Moreno (25th place, 59 seconds behind) and Ukrainian Olga Shekel (51st place, 1:58 minutes behind) also competed for Astana.
Sierra, the team captain, was runner-up in 2018 at the Giro dell'Emilia.
