The National Council of the Performing Arts has prepared a colloquium in honor of the 90th birthday of Cuban theater director Vicente Revuelta, founder of the Grupo Teatro Estudio and an essential figure in the local theater scene.
According to a statement from the Casona Revuelta, the event will be held at the Casona de Línea cultural center, the place where much of his work as an actor, theater director, and educator took place for decades.
The tribute event will open in the Adolfo Llauradó hall on June 5th, his birthday, with the production Mysteries and Small Pieces, a work with which his counterpart Carlos Celdrán and the ensemble Argos Teatro pay tribute to him.
Meanwhile, on June 6th in the Raquel Revuelta Hall, the production The Act by the group Teatro del Caballero will take place, starring José Antonio Alonso, who is also the director along with Yoander Ballester Aguilar.
The program of activities includes the screening of an audiovisual dedicated to the artist and the opening of a photography exhibition curated by the National Center for Research in the Performing Arts.
Organized by the Casona Vicente Revuelta and the Tablas-Alarcos Publishing House, the colloquium will conclude with the presentation of the book The Long Journey Towards Truth, by Carlos Sarmiento, published by Ediciones Alarcos.
National Theater Prize winner in 1999, Revuelta is valued as one of the essential creators of Cuban theater's avant-garde, author of numerous anthology productions of the Island's performing arts scene.
