Cuban pianist Jesús "Chucho" Valdés, American saxophonist Kenny Garrett and Spanish composer María Bonet will perform at the next edition of the Barcelona Jazz Festival, organizers announced today.
The cultural event in that Spanish city will also feature singer and orchestra conductor Bobby McFerrin, performer Dianne Reeves and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, all from the United States.
Also from the northern country come composer, pianist and producer Vijay Iyer, modern jazz guitarist Ben Monder, vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant and young musician and singer Vic Mirallas.
The artists represent, only, between 20 and 25 percent of the programming of that gathering, a world reference in the genre and characterized by free concerts, master classes, lectures and encounters with artists.
The 25 announced concerts make up the programming planned starting next October that also includes the flamenco cycle De Cajón, with four confirmed names, among them Spanish singer Estrella Morante, with her new show Viviré.
In that section guitarist José Fernandez, Tomatito, will also perform with a project dedicated to Camarón de la Isla and to singers in general; pianist Dorantes and the duo made up of Chano Domínguez and Diego Amador.
Currently, the 52nd edition of that event is taking place and will conclude on July 12 with the concert by Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra at the Palau de la Música in Barcelona.
