Cuban singer and dancer Chanel Terrero will represent Spain at Eurovision 2022 with the song "'SloMo", after winning the grand final of the Benidorm Fest held last Saturday night at El Palau de los Esports L'Illa de Benidorm.

Although the favorites to win were Catalan artist Rigoberta Bandini with "Ay mama" and the Galician group Tanxugueiras with "Terra", their performance in the semi-final last Wednesday suggested this possibility. Chanel received 25 points from the public, surpassed only by Tanxugueiras, with 30. While she received the majority of votes from the jury, who gave her 96 points.

During the awards ceremony, Chanel said she felt "a bit in shock" and thanked everyone who voted for her and her team of dancers. "I promise to give the show at Eurovision to finish first. We're going to blow it up, I promise you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I dedicate this to my family, my friends and my entire team", said the artist. The Eurovision Song Festival 2022 will be held in the Italian city of Turin on May 14th.

The song "SloMo", with which the young woman will represent Spain at Eurovision, has gone viral both on social networks and in Spanish Spotify charts.

Chanel Terrero was born in Havana in 1991. As a child she emigrated with her family to Spain where she began to develop her career as an artist and singer very early on. Her name is due to her mother's admiration for the renowned fashion designer Coco Chanel. She has participated in musicals such as "The Bodyguard", "Flashdance", "The Lion King" and "Mamma mia!". She has also acted in the films Brain Robbery 2 and The King of Havana. In 2010 she danced with Colombian singer Shakira at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

The song SloMo, with which Chanel will present herself at the Eurovision festival, which takes place from May 10 to 14, has been criticized for its lyrics, which some describe as sexist and criticized because it contains many English words. "Let's go! Llegó la mami, /La reina, la dura, una bugatti/El mundo está loco con este party/Si tengo un problema, no es monetary/ Yo vuelvo loquito a todos los daddies".
