Cernuda Arte Opens Miami Exhibition Marking Cuban Painter Gina Pellón's Centennial

Cernuda Arte gallery in Coral Gables, Florida, opened the exhibition "Gina Pellón: Centennial (1926-2026)" on September 4, 2026, marking the 100th anniversary of the Cuban painter's birth. The show brings together more than twenty paintings, collages and works on paper created between 1970 and 2010, and will remain open to the public through the end of the year.

Pellón was born on December 26, 1926, in Cumanayagua, in what was then Las Villas province. She trained at the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro, graduating in 1954, and in 1959 traveled to France on a scholarship, settling there permanently from 1960 onward. She lived in Paris until her death in 2014, never returning to Cuba.

In Paris, she moved among figures of Surrealism and the CoBrA movement, including Wifredo Lam and André Breton, and developed an abstract expressionist style marked by vivid color and recurring female forms. Over a five-decade career she held more than 150 exhibitions worldwide, and her work is held in collections including the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris and the Lowe Art Museum in Miami.

Cernuda Arte, which manages the painter's archive, presents the exhibition as a tribute to what it calls "a titan of Cuban art in exile," aiming to introduce new audiences to the work of one of twentieth-century Cuban art's most distinctive figures.
