Celebrate 86th anniversary of Dr. Rodrigo Álvarez Cambras and Teacher's Day at Hospital Frank País

The International Orthopedic Scientific Complex Frank País and Cuban orthopedics celebrated yesterday the 86th birthday of DrC. Rodrigo Álvarez Cambras, Honorary Academic, Professor and Researcher of Merit, creator of the Cuban methodology of external fixation, creator and introducer of numerous surgical techniques. Founder of the Sports Traumatology Group and Rehabilitation of the Osteomioarticular System.

In the well-deserved ceremony, the presentation of the book "As I Lived It" written by the professor was held with great emotion. Belonging to the University Press, this book narrates the eventful and fruitful life of Álvarez Cambras, a prominent Cuban orthopedic surgeon, internationally recognized; who was the creator of the RALCA external fixator, physician to Cuban Olympic delegations and to notable political, cultural and sports personalities.

Some of the most famous legends of Cuban sports would not have taken place without the legend of the orthopedic surgeon who made them possible. Putting names to the facts: neither Juantorena would have won "with his heart" the 400 and 800 meters in Montreal 76, nor María Caridad Colón would have won Olympic gold in Moscow 80, without the mastery and boldness of a doctor named Rodrigo Álvarez Cambras.

As I Lived It, a book in digital format, is a biography in almost 300 pages of whom many consider the father of orthopedics in Cuba, who was founder and director for more than 40 years of the prestigious Frank País hospital complex, where he presented the book, surrounded by personalities from sports, art, science and diplomacy, who count themselves among his grateful patients.

The fascinating personal history of the man, the struggles and risks of the revolutionary, the anecdotes of the physician to famous patients. Everything or almost everything that he remembers and it is much and very interesting, is in the texts, brief and concise and in the revealing photos of the work, with a prologue by Eusebio Leal, presented by the Doctor in Historical Sciences Félix Julio Alfonso and narrated in broad strokes by his main protagonist before colleagues, family and friends.

The biography of Álvarez Cambras is a fresh and fascinating approach to eight decades of national history, seasoned with personal anecdotes of his involvement in events of worldwide relevance.
