CD Brothers, of the López-Gavilán brothers, competes in the Cubadisco 2020-21

The family, artistic and spiritual union of Ilmar and Aldo López-Gavilán flourishes in the album Brothers, a strong contender for the Cubadisco 2020-21 Awards in the instrumental music category.

Currently, this duo is promoting its musical production in the United States, as part of a concert tour (virtual or with reduced audiences) in cities such as Detroit, Michigan, Napa, Chicago, Minnesota, New York, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, among others.

Available very soon on digital platforms, the album Brothers includes 10 songs written by Aldo López-Gavilán, with masterful arrangements for piano and violin by the brothers. This musical production was created in 2019 in the context of several presentations by the family duo in New York.

Additionally, it became the documentary Los Hermanos / The Brothers, produced and directed by American producers and directors Marcia Jarmel and Ken Schneider. The film has been presented so far at a dozen American festivals and was recently broadcast by PBS.

A violinist trained in the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Spain and the United States, the country where he currently resides, Ilmar López-Gavilán has showcased his talent on prestigious stages around the world. Among other international accolades, in 2012 he obtained a Grammy Award with the Harlem Quartet. The founder and director of this renowned string quartet has recorded alongside excellent musicians John Patitucci, Winton Marsalis and Chick Corea.

Aldo López-Gavilán stands out as a virtuoso pianist. Throughout his fruitful career, he has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, the New England Conservatory Youth Symphony, the Philharmonic of Bogotá, the Jazz+ Orchestra of Sao Paulo, and the "Simón Bolívar" Youth Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, among other prominent ones in the United States. He has 13 albums in his discography, of which five were nominated for Cubadisco, including El ocaso de la hormiga y el elefante, winner of the Grand Prize of the competition in the year 2000.

The XXIV edition of the Cubadisco Awards and its international fair will be held from May 15 to 23 in virtual format, with Spain as the guest country.
