Carlos Varela, the renowned Cuban singer-songwriter, has presented his most recent musical work, "Nada es como antes", an album that reflects the maturity and emotions of his life after leaving Cuba. Recorded in Madrid, where the musician has been residing for some time, the album includes songs that address the emotional distance and uncertainty that accompany separation from one's homeland.
One of the most outstanding tracks, Miedo a ser feliz, is described by Varela as an "emotional dialogue" with himself. In his own words, the song reflects the struggle between insecurity and distance, a feeling that often accompanies him and that, according to him, touches him deeply. In a recent post, Varela shared a fragment of the song while working in the studio, showing his connection to the work.
The new album features songs such as Elefantes, Libre and Tú alma y la mía, which could become the new benchmarks for the Cuban artist. Critics have noted that this album marks Varela's return to the music scene, but with a different version of himself, more mature, yet faithful to his essence. "He's not the same, but he is the same," comments journalist and music follower Hernández, when reflecting on Varela's evolution and his music.
Earlier this year, Varela celebrated the 35th anniversary of his iconic album Jalisco Park in Tenerife, which he recorded in the same city. In an interview with a local newspaper, the singer confessed that, over time, he has become "an uncomfortable artist for those in power" because of his honesty and for singing what he truly feels, without filters. "I have always been honest with everything I have written and sung, and I have paid a price for it," he affirmed.
Throughout his career, Varela has gained international recognition, with his music being performed by renowned musicians such as Jackson Browne, Dave Matthews, Joaquín Sabina and Miguel Bosé. With this new album, he continues to demonstrate that his voice and his commitment to music remain a powerful force.
