Silvio Rodríguez will sing in Matanzas on Friday, June 22

After five years without appearing on the stages of this city, Silvio Rodríguez, the renowned Cuban troubadour, will return to the so-called Athens of Cuba, in his concert for neighborhoods number 94, at Parque de La Estrella, this Friday at seven in the afternoon.

The concert is included within the First Meeting of Troubadours of Matanzas Casa Abierta that will begin next Thursday and will extend until Sunday the 24th, and in which exponents of the country's singer-songwriter tradition will participate, expressed Lien Rodríguez, member of the duo Lien y Rey.

Silvio will be accompanied at the concert by Trovarroco (Rachid López and Maykel Elizarde) Niurka González, Jorge Reyes and Oliver Valdés, while the guest will be Yunier Pérez, young Havana-based troubadour, according to information from the website Zurrón del Aprendiz, the official web page of the author of Ojalá.

This meeting of troubadours in Matanzas, a land prolific in authors, will be dedicated to the 45 years of the New Trova Movement and will also include a tribute to Nuestra América, an illustrious group of that contemporary musical tendency, on Saturday, in Cárdenas, birthplace of Luis Llaguno, its director.

Noslén González Sosa, head of programming for the provincial culture office, explained that the José White Concert Hall and the Colonial Patio, headquarters of the Hermanos Saiz Association, constitute the main venues for this first meeting, which aims to bring to the public the best and most representative of current trova.

Frank Delgado, Polito Ibáñez, Tony Ávila, Roly Berrío, Yaima Orozco, Rey Montalvo, Carlos Fidel Taboada, Aliesky Pérez, Lien y Rey, are some of the voices that will pay tribute to the concert program.

The Cultural Center La Aurora will host the theoretical space with specialists such as Joaquín Borges Triana and Víctor Casaus, poet, filmmaker and journalist, director of the Centro Pablo de la Torriente Brau; and the Vigía publishing house, at its headquarters in the Historic Center of the city, will present to the Matanzas public Hojas de la Web, chronicles by Silvio Rodríguez.

The previous presentation by the author of Segunda Cita in Matanzas took place in December of 2013 with concerts in the Popular Council of Canímar and in the neighborhood of La Marina, where the famous Muñequitos de Matanzas were born in 1952.
