Canoeist Yarisleidis Cirilo receives AIPS América Award

Cuban canoeist Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboys, Olympic bronze medalist at Paris 2024, received the Award for Best Female Athlete of 2023 from the International Association of Sports Journalists (AIPS in its English acronym) América.

The sports publication website JIT highlighted that Nicaraguan Moisés Ávalos, first vice president of AIPS América, presented this Monday the recognition in a simple ceremony organized at one of the headquarters of the José Martí International Institute of Journalism, of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC).

"I am happy, very content, for me this is exciting and important," expressed to those present the also world champion and champion of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games in the C-1 200 meters canoe, accompanied by the president of the Cuban Canoeing Federation, Alejandro Hamze, and the head of UPEC, Ricardo Ronquillo.

There, in an impromptu press conference, journalists from seven Latin American nations spoke with the also youngest deputy to the Cuban parliament.

The students of the XVII edition of the International Postgraduate Course in Sports Journalism learned firsthand about the athlete's sacrifice, the dedication of her coaches and other details of the preparation of an Olympic canoeist.

Vice president Ávalos took the opportunity to learn more about the work of the awarded guantanamera and received recognition from UPEC for AIPS América's contribution to the celebration of the aforementioned postgraduate courses in Cuba.

Completing the list Best Male Athlete: Ronald Acuña (Baseball/Venezuela) and AIPS América organizes the AIPS Sport Media Awards, in which the best work in sports journalism at the global level is recognized in categories such as photography, video, audio and writing.
