The municipal assembly of the People's Power of Manzanillo granted the distinguished Cuban singer-songwriter Cándido Fabré the status of Adoptive Son of that city in Granma.

The presentation of the certificate that accredits this took place this Tuesday in a ceremony that began in the park of the Moorish roundabout in Manzanillo, and concluded, due to a downpour, in the Manzanillo theater.

The event was held on the occasion of the city's 230th anniversary in the Gulf of Guacanayabo, in the presence of the highest political and government authorities of the province and municipality, delegates, and a broad representation of the people of Manzanillo.

Journalist Aroldo García from Radio Rebelde reported on his Facebook profile that Cándido, emotionally moved, first referred to "Mamá Sixta and Papá Neto". He also thanked another great of music, Wilfredo "Pachi" Naranjo, who, nearly 40 years ago, opened the doors of Manzanillo to him.

"It is worth recognizing, and I can attest to this, that the authorities of Santiago de Cuba, his native land, have begged, literally said, Cándido, to return to his birthplace, assuring him all the conditions, and he, demonstrating once again his ethics, his humility, and his high integral values, decided to stay in this city that one day welcomed him as a son of its own, until now," the journalist confessed.
