«Buena Vista Social Club» Musical Arrives in Miami September 29

The Tony- and Grammy-winning musical Buena Vista Social Club makes its South Florida premiere September 29–October 4, 2026, at the Ziff Ballet Opera House of Miami's Adrienne Arsht Center. The limited run opens the 2026–27 Broadway in Miami series, according to the Arsht Center and local coverage.

The story centers on Omara Portuondo, Cuba's «Queen of Feeling», and the path toward the album that introduced a generation of Cuban musicians to global audiences. The book is by Hialeah-raised playwright Marco Ramirez, and Tony-winning choreography is by Miami-born former Miami City Ballet principal Patricia Delgado with Justin Peck.

Tickets were listed from about $52 for the one-week engagement. The Arsht also plans free community activities around Cuban music and Miami's cultural identity, underscoring the production's ties to the diaspora and South Florida audiences.

There is something cinematic about the story of Omara Portuondo. Daughter of a woman from a Spanish family who abandoned her social circle to marry a handsome black player from the Cuban national baseball team—which forced her to hide this union in public, since mixed marriages were not well regarded in Cuba at that time—Omara came into contact with music in her earliest childhood. Like in any other Cuban home, the future singer and her siblings grew up surrounded by the music that their parents sang, lacking a gramophone.
