Young musician Brayan Álvarez, son of the legendary son singer Adalberto Álvarez, announced that he will continue his father's artistic legacy, who passed away on September 1 from COVID-19 complications.
"I know you are by my side helping me and giving me strength to continue that immense legacy which you wanted to give me the responsibility and the reins so that it never dies," Brayan posted on the Facebook page of the orchestra Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, which judging by his words will come under his command.
The young pianist added that "today I take it on with great pride and I promise you dad that I will give my life for your work and although I am only 22 years old, those same years were by your side, living with you every day and learning from the Genius and Master that you are."
Brayan Álvarez concluded by saying to his father, known as "The gentleman of son": "I will always speak in the present tense because you continue with us in your songs and in our hearts."
The son of Adalberto, who led the project Brayan Álvarez y los hijos del Son, was supported by hundreds of Cubans in the comments on the post.
"That's how it will be my brother and all of us with you so that papi's legacy never dies," said Dorgeris Álvarez, daughter of Adalberto.
His uncle Enrique Álvarez, violinist and leader of the Charanga Latina, expressed: "Very heartfelt and emotional words my Boy. Difficult days have touched us to live, but I am sure you will have the support of a People and especially that of your Family... Your Legacy will live for all time. Huge kisses."

Singer Haila María Mompié said she was "more than sure that with the education he gave you, in addition to the love and all the knowledge you acquired by his side, his legacy will never die."
Haila also told Brayan that "you were already blessed from your mother's womb and I know that from heaven he will always support you and guide you, you can do it."
The well-known timba composer and singer Emilio Frías, leader of the group "El Niño y la verdad," also showed his support for Adalberto's son: "I have been with you since before our father left and you know it."
Alejandro Falcón, renowned jazz musician, congratulated Brayan Álvarez, in his view "an excellent pianist and musician" to whom he wished "much success."
The legacy of Adalberto
Adalberto Álvarez was a composer, arranger, orchestra director, and pianist. For his popularity and mastery, he deserved the National Music Prize in 2008.
He achieved fame leading the emblematic groups "Son 14" and "Adalberto Álvarez y su Son" with which he remained for more than 40 years in the preference of dancers in Cuba and Latin America.
He was the most covered Cuban son singer in the Latin sphere of the last 30 years, and wrote for international salsa figures, such as Puerto Rican Gilberto Santa Rosa.
His works have been performed by Andy Montañez, Juan Luis Guerra y la 440, Oscar D' León, Eddie Palmieri, among many other first-rate artists.
