Cuban artist dedicated to installation and performance, trained at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana and at the school of the Art Institute of Chicago. Bruguera's work revolves around themes of power and control.
She lives and works between Chicago and Havana. She is the founder and director of Arte de Conducta (behavioral art), the first performance studies program in Latin America, which is conducted by the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana. She is also assistant professor in the department of visual arts at the University of Chicago, United States and is visiting professor at IUAV University of Venice, Italy.
Her work has been exhibited at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in the United States, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in the Netherlands, Museum für Moderne Kunst in Germany, Helsinki Art Museum (Finland), the Whitechapel Art Gallery in the United Kingdom, the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center in Cuba and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Cuba.
Bruguera has performed at the Kunsthalle Wien in Austria, Stedjlick Museum von Actuele Kunst in Belgium, the X-Teresa Current Art Museum in Mexico as well as at the Museum of Fine Arts in Venezuela and the Institute of International Visual Art in the United Kingdom.
Furthermore, she has given lectures at The New School in New York, the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, the Royal College of Art (London) and the MoMA, Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others.

Her work is part of the collections of the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Germany, the Daros Foundation of Switzerland, JP Morgan Chase Bank (United States), Museum of Modern Art, Bronx Museum (United States), the National Museum of Fine Arts in Cuba and the New Museum for Latin American Art in the United Kingdom, among others.
Likewise, she appears in numerous publications and was artist in residence at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and the San Francisco Art Institute in the United States, the Khoj artists residency in India, The Western Front (Canada) or The Gasworks Studios in the United Kingdom, among others.
Similarly, she is the founder and director of Arte de Conducta, the first performance studies program in Latin America, at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
