Romel Frómeta Castellón

He began his studies in 1992 at the Provincial Ballet School "Alejo Carpentier" and continued them at the National Ballet School, starting in 1998. Among his teachers were Marta Bosch and Mirta Hermida.

During his school years he earned numerous distinctions both in Cuba and abroad, among which are: Bronze Medals in the International Ballet Competition "Alicia Alonso" and the International Meeting-Competition of Ballet Academies (Havana, 1997); Gold Medal and Artistic Revelation Award (1998); Silver Medal (1999) and Grand Prix, Gold Medal and City Medal (2000), in the International Meetings-Competitions of Academies for Ballet Teaching, held in the Cuban capital.

In 1999 he obtained the Gold Medal in the Vignale-Danza Competition for Young Talents, held in Italy and in 2000 the Bronze Medal in the International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria.

In 2001, after his graduation, he joined the cast of the National Ballet of Cuba, under the technical-artistic direction of Alicia Alonso.

With this company he has performed in Spain, Italy, Holland, People's Republic of China, Mexico, Dominican Republic and the United States.

His repertoire includes leading roles in Swan Lake and Don Quixote; as well as other prominent roles in The Nutcracker, the Grand pas from La bayadera, Giselle, Carmen, Rara avis, Tablada, En tu mano va mi mano, Canto vital, Gottschalk's Symphony and other contemporary choreographies by Cuban and foreign creators.

He has danced for world-renowned professional companies such as the National Ballet of Cuba, the Royal Danish Ballet, the National Dance Company, the Cincinnati Ballet and the Met Ballet. He has worked with renowned choreographers such as Alicia Alonso, Val Caniparoli, Trey McIntyre, Yuri Possokhov among many others.
