He was born on September 7, 1956 in the municipality of Santo Domingo, Villa Clara.
He completed his primary education at the "Jaime Hugo Vilella" primary school in the town itself. In 1969 he entered the EIDE of Cienfuegos where, in addition to practicing the sport, he began his secondary studies. In 1970 he transferred to the EIDE of Santa Clara and that same year he entered the National ESPA "Giraldo Córdova Cardín" in Marianao, Havana. Upon completing his youth age for this sport, he moved to the High Performance Training Center Cerro Pelado in 1973.
Regino, who was a former captain of the Cuba team at the Pan American Games of 1975, 1979, 1983 and 1991; the Central American Games of 1974, 1978, 1982 and the Olympics of 1976 in Montreal and 1980 in Moscow, was three times champion in Central American games and Pan American runner-up in 1979.
Sports Career
In 1987 he retired from the National Team and began working as a Football sports trainer at the provincial athletic improvement school ESPA of Villa Clara, while also participating in national championships representing the province until 1991 when he retired from active sports.
For his achievements as an athlete and trainer, he was called to lead the provincial commission, and later carried out a sports collaboration mission in the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Upon his return, he continued his work as a trainer of young talents with satisfactory results.
For the merits achieved during his sports life, he was awarded the Martyrs of Barbados medal, the highest distinction conferred by the Council of State to athletes and prominent figures in sports in Cuba.
