Raquel Domínguez

Died: November 19, 1993

Soprano singer. One of the female voices that gathered around the figures of Ernesto Lecuona, Gonzalo Roig, Jaime and Rodrigo Prats. Mother of the distinguished baritone Pedro Arias.

She studied music at the Municipal Conservatory of Music of La Habana and at the "Lalo Elósegui" School of Singing.

She made her debut in 1930 and from then on included works of various genres and styles in her repertoire. She participated in the premieres of the zarzuelas María La O, Rosa la China and El maizal, among others. She performed radio programs and appeared in the theaters Encanto, Payret and Martí.

She shared the stage with notable Cuban singers such as Rita Montaner, who considered her the best interpreter of the zarzuela El cafetal, by Ernesto Lecuona.
