Rafael Edward Cruz Wilson

Ted Cruz

"Ted" Cruz Canadian-American lawyer and politician.

His parents are Eleanor Elizabeth Wilson and Rafael Bienvenido Cruz, originally from Cuba. Ted Cruz was born in Canada since his parents, a Cuban father and American mother, lived in that country for three years.

Ted Cruz's father, Rafael Cruz, was born in Cuba, and his grandfather was originally from the Canary Islands. His mother was born in Wilmington (Delaware). His father left Cuba in 1957 to study at the University of Austin, in Texas, and obtained political asylum in the United States after his four-year student visa expired.

He obtained his B.A. from Princeton University and earned his doctorate in law, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School.

He was editor of the Harvard Law Review, executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, and founding editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review.

He was elected to the United States Senate from the State of Texas in late 2012.

Ted belongs to the most prestigious of the anti-Cuban lobby in the United States. He distinguished himself during former president Donald Trump's administration for being the architect of many of the coercive measures applied against Cuba and Venezuela.

Prominent member of the conservative populist Tea Party group; his speech at the Capitol to boycott Barack Obama's healthcare reform has gone down in history as one of the longest and most reactionary speeches heard in that place.

The Tea Party Movement or simply Tea Party (sometimes translated as Tea Party), is a right-wing American political movement centered on fiscally conservative policy, and defined by originalism, that is, a return to the philosophical-constitutional origins of the United States. The Washington Government, public debt, and the political class in general (both Democrats and Republicans) are the main targets of their attacks, and they advocate for a reduction in the Federal Government's social presence in society.

The Tea Party is a movement formed by a constellation of local citizen groups united by their opposition to Obama's agenda; at the time, they feared that if the president got his way he would eliminate some basic principles and values of the USA.

Defender of anti-immigrant policies, as a Republican presidential candidate in 2016, he promised to deport all undocumented immigrants from the United States.

He is also remembered for voting against federal aid to address the damage from Hurricane Sandy.

Although he has tried to distance himself from the Capitol events, dozens of civic organizations submitted a document with more than 25,000 signatures from citizens demanding the resignation of the senator and 17 other legislators for complicity in the January 6 insurrection in Washington DC.

Although civic organizations are made up of groups allied with Democrats, such as Voto Latino and Move On, an organization called Republican Accountability Project already installed billboards in San Antonio with the text: "You lied about the election. And the Capitol was attacked. Resign."

He led attempts to present a Bill to sanction countries that hire doctors from the Caribbean nation Cuba.

Throughout his career he has provoked the displeasure of a wide range of politicians, from former president George W. Bush to Senator Rand Paul.
