Marty Martínez
Died: March 8, 2007
A very useful player in the major leagues, he made his debut on May 2, 1962 and played for ten years until July 19, 1972. He was a Manager, Coach and Scout.
He batted right-handed or left-handed and threw right-handed, playing for six different teams over these ten years.
He never hit a home run in 945 at-bats, but he did everything a good player should do. He played shortstop in 157 games, and occasionally played first, second and third base as well. However, he is much more remembered for his work as a scout in detecting players of the caliber of Edgar Martínez and Omar Vizquel.
He started in 1962 with the Minnesota Twins, then played with the Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers.
He was manager of the Tulsa Drillers and coach for the Seattle Mariners.
He died of a heart attack at age 65 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
