Olivia Miranda Francisco

Senior Researcher at the Institute of Philosophy. She has been interested in Cuban thought, the articulation of Marxism with national revolutionary traditions, and Latin American Marxism. She has to her credit a recognized and important body of work on the history of ideas in Cuba.

Graduated as a teacher from La Escuela Normal de La Habana in 1959. Bachelor's degree in Spanish Language and Literature from the Faculty of Arts and Letters at the University of La Habana in 1974. Doctor of Philosophical Sciences (PhD) in 1986.

Upon the triumph of the Revolution, she became a professional cadre of the youth movement and participated in the founding of the Asociación de Jóvenes Rebeldes, the Unión de Pioneros Rebeldes, and the Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas. She is founder and first director of Revista Pionero.

In 1964 she began working at ICR as a journalist in newscasts and informational programs and later as director and scriptwriter of dramatic programs. Between 1971 and 1973 she held the position of press and culture attaché at the Embassy of Cuba in Tanzania.

In 1968 she entered the School of Arts and Letters at the University of La Habana and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Language and Literature in 1974. Between 1974 and 1980 she served as professor of Overview of Cuban Culture at the Faculty of Arts and Letters at the University of La Habana.

Between 1979 and 1983, she worked as an associate researcher at the Institute of Literature and Linguistics at ACC. From 1983 to the present, she has worked as an auxiliary and senior researcher at the Institute of Philosophy. In 1986 she defended her doctoral thesis (PhD).

She has taught lectures and postgraduate courses at numerous national institutions including University of La Habana, Instituto Superior Pedagógico Enrique José Varona, ISPE in Manzanillo, Ciego de Ávila, Camagüey, Marxism Department of MINED, Center for the Advancement of MININT Leaders, ITM, Ministry of Culture and also at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima.

She has participated in the development of programs for postgraduate courses and master's degrees at higher education centers in the country. She has served as advisor for diploma projects and opponent of several doctoral theses.

She has participated in nearly forty national and international scientific events as a speaker or served as a jury member, moderator, and rapporteur.

Awards
Throughout her career as a researcher, she has received various recognitions for her research results. In 1997 she received the Order "Carlos J. Finlay" for the entirety of her scientific work.

Research
She has participated in numerous investigations on the topics of: History of Cuban thought, History of Latin American thought, History of Cuban literature, Marxism in Latin America, especially in Peru, Testimonial literature in Cuba from 1959 onwards, The articulation of Marxism and national and continental revolutionary traditions.

She is the author of numerous articles and essays published in specialized journals, popular publications, and several books.
