Oliver Valdés Rey

He was born in La Habana. He completed his elementary-level music studies at the Manuel Saumell school, and then in 1996 he entered the middle-level school Amadeo Roldán and graduated in 2000.

He began working with different groups at the age of 16 in Havana. He is considered part of the 'new generation of Cuban drums' and is one of the most sought-after studio drummers in recent years, working with great musicians and personalities such as Silvio Rodríguez (present), Leo Brouwer, Ibrahim Ferrer, Israel 'Cachao' López, Manuel Galván, Omara Portuondo, David Murray, Bobby Carcassés, Isaac Delgado and others…

He has worked with great percussionists such as: José Luís Quintana, Tata Güines, Pancho Terry, Pancho Quinto, Clave y Guaguancó, Tomás El Panga Ramos, Giraldo Piloto, Samuel Formell, Enrique Plá, Memo Acevedo, Don Famularo, Chuck Silverman, Aldo Mazza, Adel González, Yaroldi Abreu.

He is part of the Interactivo group directed by Robertico Carcassés, and has performed on stages in Latin America, United States of North America, Europe, and Japan.

Member of the group of musicians who has accompanied Silvio Rodríguez for more than a decade on international tours and on his Tour through the Neighborhoods of Cuba.

He is the son of the renowned guitarist Chicoy.
