Noel Guzmán Boffil Rojas

Noel Guzmán Boffil Rojas. He was a Cuban plastic artist and poet. Self-taught in his formation, he is considered one of the most important naïf painters in Cuban plastic arts. He was a member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba and held multiple personal and collective exhibitions, both in Cuba and abroad. His paintings are part of important permanent collections, especially in national institutions such as the Museum of Fine Arts, the Wifredo Lam Center, the Haydée Santamaría Collection, the House of the Americas, and the Provincial Council of Visual Arts of Villa Clara.

Noel was born in Remedios, Las Villas. He has a self-taught formation. He began his career as a painter and draftsman with the Grupo Signos, directed by Samuel Feijóo.

Member of the Hermanos Saíz Association, of young artists of Cuba. He belonged to the Juan Marinello Chair of Cuban Culture at the Universidad Central Marta Abreu de Las Villas; the National Association of Humorists of Cuba; the Cuban Association of Musical Authors; and the board of directors of the National Association of Tango, in charge of visual arts.

He published in the magazines Signos, Verde Olivo, ANAP, Muchacha, Arcada, Sabaneque, SEPMI. In the newspapers Guerrillero, Tribuna, Venceremos, Vanguardia, Monte Libre, Monthly (Denver, Colorado, United States).

Personal Exhibitions
Beginning in 1989, he began presenting personal exhibitions, some of which were held at the Art Gallery, José Martí National Library, Havana. In 1997 Tribute to Regino Boti. Orígenes Gallery, Gran Teatro de La Habana and Hummingbird Flight. Recoleta Cultural Center, Buenos Aires, Argentina, among others.

Collective Exhibitions
Since 1987 he participated in collective exhibitions such as "Salon of Marines," Leopoldo Romañach Gallery, Caibarién, Villa Clara. In 1990 he exhibited in "Inventory of Natural Things. Popular Painters, Draftsmen and Sculptors of Cuba." Center for the Development of Visual Arts, Havana. In 1993 "VIII International Biennial of Humor." Eduardo Abela Gallery, San Antonio de los Baños, Havana.

Awards
In 1987 he obtained the first prize "Salon of Marines," Leopoldo Romañach Gallery, Caibarién, Villa Clara, first prize of the 4th International Salon of Visual Arts Juanito Laguna of Mercosur, Argentina.

Works in Collection
His work is part of the collections of the House of the Americas, Wifredo Lam Center, and the National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba.
