Researcher and Associate Senior Professor at the University of La Habana, where she has worked as a teacher and lecturer in postgraduate courses, workshops, and seminars. She was awarded the National Prize for Cultural Research for Lifetime Achievement in 2019.
She is Scientific Coordinator of the "Ernesto Che Guevara" Center for Studies, advisor to the Che Guevara Chair, FLACSO Program of the University of La Habana. Member of the Scientific Degrees Commission for Sociology of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), member of LASA and of the Editorial Board of the journal Contexto Latinoamericano.
She is coordinator of the editorial project dedicated to the life and work of Ernesto Che Guevara in collaboration with Ocean Sur publishing house. Dr. in Historical Sciences María del Carmen Ariet García, full member of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba, senior professor and researcher, is the coordinator of the Che Guevara Editorial Project, as well as compiler, editor, author, and writer of forewords. Her work has made possible the publication, almost in its entirety, of Che's work, organized by thematic lines.
She has participated in numerous national and international events and in multiple advisory roles for multimedia and film products.
She organized and executed the socio-historical research for the search and location of the remains of guerrilla fighters from the Bolivian campaign from 1996 to 2001.
Doctor in Historical Sciences. Graduated as an Instructor of Philosophy from the Department of Philosophy and as a Sociologist from the University of La Habana in 1971 and 1974, respectively.
She taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in History of Philosophy, Sociological Theories, and Sociology of Latin America at the University of La Habana (1971-1981). Researcher and Head of Area at the Center for Studies on America (1981-1983). Member of the Scientific Degrees Commission for the Sociology specialty of the Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba, member of LASA, of the Che Guevara Chair of the FLACSO Program for the University of La Habana, and of the Scientific and Technical Branch Program.
She has published books, reviews, historical and sociological works in Cuban and international journals and in the coordination of multimedia materials about Che, based on her research results. Historical advisor on films and documentaries.
Together with Dr. in Legal Medicine Jorge González Pérez, she participated more than two decades ago in the extraordinary investigation that led to the discovery of Che's remains and those of his companions in Bolivia.
She has participated in national and international academic and political events, such as Social Forums in Ecuador, Brazil, and Venezuela, conferences on political parties and social movements in Cuba, Mexico, and Brazil, Book Fairs in Guadalajara, Buenos Aires, Colombia, and La Habana, as a speaker, author, and presenter.
