Manuel Garrido Álvarez

Died: January 3, 1938

===BODY===
He was born in Palmarito de Cauto, and from a very young age he demonstrated great intelligence and concern for social problems. By age 22, he was already known for his communist ideas, as was his brother.

When the Spanish Civil War began, a great mass movement was organized in Cuba to support the republicans. Collections of money and products were made to send to the combatants.

On July 3, 1937, Manuel left for Spain on the French ship Reina del Pacifico to join the war, which had already reached great proportions due to the support of Hitler and Mussolini to Franco. Manuel was appointed political commissar of the II International Brigade.

Manuel died in combat on January 3, 1938 in Cunco, in Teruel, when he was political commissar of the international brigade.
