Lynn Milanés Benet

Lynn Milanés Benet, a young Cuban performer who moves with ease through different genres such as pop, blues, traditional music, rock, and troubadour song.

Daughter of the popular Bayamo singer-songwriter Pablito Milanés and Yolanda Benet, this has brought her great satisfaction in her career and personal life.

She began her studies at the "Manuel Saumel" Elementary School of Music in Havana City in 1983 until 1986 in the flute specialty and won awards in competitions at the national level.

In the 1990s she continued her studies at the secondary level at the "Amadeo Roldán" School, then in 1991 she entered the "Ignacio Cervantes" Professional Development School and won the award for best interpretation of Romantic Music, graduating in 1996 with a diploma for Best Flute Talent.

Lynn conducts her professional work in various theater groups, performing music with her flute live, such as the Ballet Teatro de La Habana, and Buendía (a group that enjoys great national and international prestige).

She founded a three-voice vocal group called "ARIES," becoming its director. It was made up of: piano, drums, guitar, Cuban percussion, bass, and flute which alternated with singing. With this group she recorded her first album in 1994 called "Aries."

In 1997 she began her solo career, starting her work as a comprehensive singer and incorporating pop and blues music, venturing into traditional music and boleros by Cuban authors with two guitars; during this period the idea emerged to record her second album titled "Ama."

She sang in various places in Spain until 2003. She was invited to perform several recordings with performers Pablo Milanés, Joaquín Sabina, and Raúl Torres, and that same year she prepared a concert at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater called "La Música."

In 2009, she toured throughout Cuba with more than 20 concerts, filling all theaters and plazas singing her latest compact disc and DVD, titled "Te quiero bien" with a very varied show. The album launch took place at the "Mella" Theater in Havana City, with the participation of musicians Polito Ibáñez, Raúl Torres, her sisters Suylen and Haydée Milanés, and Rey Ugarte (on guitar), among others. The album "Te Quiero Bien" was nominated at Cubadisco 2009 in the Pop-Ballads category.

At the end of 2012 she was presenting a peña at the nightclub El Cortijo, inviting one of the winners of the drum festival of that same year to join the percussion, his name is Hanser Santos Gómez, percussionist of the Opera de la calle company.

She then tours different places in Spain such as Madrid, Galicia, and Granada. Upon her return to Cuba she sang at the Sauto Theater in Matanzas and the Meliá Varadero Hotel, continuing the promotion of the album "Te quiero bien."

She has participated in Pablo Milanés concerts performing duets and choruses. She was invited to sing at concerts by Cuban musicians such as: Haydée Milanés, Polito Ibáñez, Pablo FG, and Bobby Carcases.

Lynn has worked in national nightclubs such as: El Gato Tuerto, El club Imágenes, Delirio Habanero, and Café Cantante. Currently she has a space at Delirio Habanero and Sala Atril, both located in Havana City, and has participated in television programs such as "Vamos a andar," "La Descarga," and "Ecos de Mujer."

Her repertoire includes songs by Cuban singer-songwriters such as Atanay Castro, Raúl Torres, Decemer Bueno, Geovani Caballero (Vanito), Federico Llado, Yadan González, Liván Castellano, Atanay, and songs by her father Pablo Milanés.

"Musically I have his influence, his experience, his principles—things that shape Pablo as a musician and that he transmits without limitations. Some doors open for you and others do as well, you can't avoid that. It's more than attending academy; my father gives everything needed to train a good musician, something I don't hesitate to absorb (...). Pablo Milanés is my paradigm; my father, a spiritual guide."

She studied the flute specialty at the Manuel Saumell Elementary School of Music, at the secondary level Amadeo Roldán, and at the Ignacio Cervantes Professional Development School, earning a diploma for best flute talent in those four years.

She played the flute in various theater groups with live music, such as Ballet Teatro de La Habana and Teatro Buendía. In 1994 she founded the three-voice vocal group Aries and recorded the album Aries.

In 1997 she began her solo career, incorporating pop and blues music into her work and venturing into two-guitar arrangements with traditional music by Cuban authors and boleros, from which the idea emerged to record an album titled Ama. During these years she worked in national nightclubs such as El Gato Tuerto, El club Imágenes, Delirio Habanero, and Café Cantante. Her repertoire today includes compositions by new and consolidated artists such as Descemer Bueno, author of songs popularized by internationally famous musicians such as Enrique Iglesias and Juan Luis Guerra. She has shared the stage with, among others, jazz musician Bobby Carcasés, musician Polito Ibáñez, and her sisters Suylén and Haydée Milanés.

She has been invited to various album recordings with performers: Pablo Milanés, Joaquín Sabina, and Raúl Torres. She was part of various recordings on the following albums: Bolero en Pop, Homenaje a Serrat, Disco de Navidad, and Breathing Havana. Raúl Torres has specially composed songs for her.

In her third CD and DVD Te quiero bien, she brought new sonority, and it was released for sale in Spain and Cuba in 2008. It was nominated at Cubadisco 2009.

Currently she maintains her regular peña every Thursday at Café Jade in this capital, and is resuming the tour De vuelta al Mundo.
