Liliam Padrón Chávez is a distinguished Cuban dancer, choreographer, and pedagogue born on October 22, 1958, in Matanzas. She graduated from the National School of Art in 1975 and continued her studies in the former Soviet Union, where she specialized in choreography and dance pedagogy.
In 1987 she founded the Danza Espiral Company in Matanzas, of which she is director and principal choreographer — a collective considered a pioneer of contemporary dance in the province. Throughout her career she has developed a distinctive stage language that integrates classical, folkloric, and contemporary techniques with elements of literature, theater, and visual arts.
Among her most recognized works are El No, Aire Frío, Aproximación a la adivinación, Pase a bordo, Clave cubana, Un estudio sobre Hamlet, Otelo, La consagración de la primavera, and Eclipse. She is also the creator of the DanzanDos Choreography and Interpretation Competition, a platform for Cuban dance that has been active for 35 years.
In 2026 she was awarded the National Dance Prize, the highest recognition granted by Cuba's National Council of Scenic Arts, chosen unanimously by the award's jury.
