Leonte Guerra Cisneros

Leonte Guerra Cisneros. Agricultural Engineer. Colonel of the Liberating Army, he participated in the war of independence against the Spanish in Cuba.

He was born in Puerto Príncipe Camagüey. He rose up on November 4, 1868 at the pass of Las Clavellinas. At the meeting in Minas he joined the group led by Ignacio Agramonte, which firmly opposed the reforms offered by the Spanish.

He was second chief of the infantry forces commanded by Colonel Jesús Valdés Urra, (Chiho). He was designated to coordinate the insurrection in the region of Camagüey bordering Remedios and Sancti Spíritus. He participated in the uprising of 1869 in the territory of Morón.

In mid-February 1869 he joined Brigadier General Horonato del Castillo, who was organizing the forces of Sancti Spíritus. While commanding a battalion, with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he attacked the towns of Mayajigua and Chambas.

He died in an encounter with the enemy in the place known as Montes del Anoncillo, in mid-1872
