He was born in Laguna de Tenerife, Islas Canarias, but settled in Santiago de Cuba, where he died at the end of the 18th century.

From a very young age he settled in Santiago de Cuba, where he married harpist Bernarda Rodríguez Rojas. He spread popular music in the Santiago environment of the mid-18th century. Upon marrying Bernarda, he founded a family that maintained, for several generations, the musical tradition in the eastern region.

He was an author of seguidillas, boleros, and villancicos.
