Cuban politician. He was appointed by the Council of State, at the proposal of its President, as Minister of Interior of the Republic of Cuba on January 9, 2017. Previously he served as First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Interior, and held the rank of Vice Admiral of the Revolutionary War Navy. Member of the Central Committee and Deputy to the National Assembly.
He served as First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Interior until his appointment on January 9, 2017 as Minister of this agency. Deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power for the municipality of Unión de Reyes, province of Matanzas, ratified on April 18, 2018 for the IX Legislature. Ratified as a member of the Council of Ministers in the First Ordinary Period of Sessions of the IX Legislature of the National Assembly.
Bachelor of History. Founder of the Revolutionary National Militias. He was Battalion Chief of Division 53 during the October Crisis. He began his work in Military Counterintelligence (CIM) as an operations officer until being appointed Chief of this security agency of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR).
Since the triumph of the revolution he served in high-importance functions as Chief of Military Counterintelligence (CIM) security agency of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), among other positions of high responsibility.
He completed an internationalist mission in Angola and special missions in other countries. He worked linked to personal security and is founder of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution.

Gandarilla Bermejo was one of those sanctioned by the United States Government "for his responsibility in serious human rights violations in Venezuela". The announcement made a year ago prevented both the Cuban officer and his family members from entering that country, which was interpreted as an attempt by the Trump Administration to further encircle the actions of the Cuban Government and its main figures.
