Juan José Mier Febles

Died: February 20, 2000

Doctor Honoris Causa of the Universidad de La Habana. Recognized Marxist intellectual. Graduate of the national college of normal teachers and equivalents in Santa Clara. He was Rector of the Universidad de La Habana and Vice Minister of Higher Education.

He was born in Corralillo, Villa Clara. Since his student years he actively participated in revolutionary struggles. After the triumph of the Revolution, he entered university teaching. He contributed significantly to the policy to be followed in universities. He worked in the Department of Science and Culture of the Central Committee of the Party.

He was a founder of the Communist Party of Cuba and a true revolutionary. The Association of Pedagogues of Cuba is honored in naming him Honorary Member.

His written work refers to the theoretical bases of Marxist-Leninist Pedagogy; to the ideological formation of our youth and to the scientific-technical revolution and its impact on higher education, among others.

For his work he has been worthy of the "Lázaro Peña" Order of the First degree
