Juan Alexander Padrón García

Juan Alexander Padrón García, known as Álex Padrón, was a Cuban writer, journalist and screenwriter born in Havana in 1973. A graduate in pharmaceutical sciences, he spent his early career in scientific research and teaching before turning fully to literature. He worked as an editor at the Juan Marinello Cuban Institute for Cultural Research and as an editorial advisor for the Spanish publishing house Atmósfera Literaria. His work spanned science fiction, noir fiction and poetry. His best-known titles include "Reino Eterno," "La balada de Xander Sirius," "Matadero" and "La herencia de los patriarcas," along with the reference work "Catauro de seres míticos y legendarios en Cuba." He received the Grand Prize of the Ibero-American Terra Ignota Competition in 2004 for "Reversión" and the 2025 La Edad de Oro Prize for "Berceuse." He died in Havana on July 17, 2026, at age 52.
