Pepe Forte
José [Pepe] Forte was born in Havana, Cuba. A graphic designer, photographer and journalist, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of San Alejandro in 1978.
Forte has been director and editor-in-chief of several magazines and newspapers in South Florida. His favorite topics are politics, criticism, music, literature, travel and automobiles, among others.
He was the editor of Mundo del Disco, a publication dedicated to music and the recording industry. He is a great connoisseur of rock music and The Beatles.
An automotive journalist since 1995 and founding member of the Southern Automotive Media Association (SAMA), he has published his articles about cars on the internet and in almost all local and national media outlets in South Florida.
Pepe Forte is one of the hosts of Sobre Ruedas Radio, a weekly 2-hour coast-to-coast program about the automobile industry and market on ESPN. He has also worked as a television producer and is frequently invited by TV and radio stations in Miami.
Pepe Forte was a pioneer in discovering and capturing in images the particular phenomenon of old Detroit cars from the 1940s and 1950s in Havana. His private collection of thousands of black and white and color photographs on the subject, taken between 1978 and 1992 under the title of "Tales of the City-Palimpsest", reveal an emotional, vivid and personal perspective of a sui generis symbiosis between vehicles and architecture, framed in an instant and circumstance.
Pepe Forte is a Cuban exile. He has resided in Miami, Florida, since 1993.
