Joel Angelino

Native of Sagua la Grande, Villaclara.

The actor is a graduate of the National School of Scenic Arts in Havana, Cuba and has seventeen years of continuous work abroad.

He began representing his country in Paris with the monologue that gave rise to the acclaimed Cuban film. Winner of the Silver Bear, the Goya and nominated for the Oscar "Fresa y chocolate", where he also plays the character of Germán. With this work he won the Grand prix of the Lugano Theater Festival and did a tour of ten European countries and four Latin American countries. He worked for the Theatre Sain Gervais and the Grand Theater of Geneva with productions such as Ginasterra's Opera "Cenci".

He spent six years in Madrid where he worked for Cristina Rotta's school teaching courses and participating in productions. He has participated in different Spanish films such as "El oro de Moscú", "El misterio Galindez", "I love you baby" and "Buñuel y la mesa del rey Salomón" the latter by prestigious director Carlos Saura and in television series such as "El inquilino" and "Aida" among others. He has been linked to the Zarzuela Season in Tenerife with titles such as "La viuda alegre" or "La corte del faraón".

Currently he alternates his monologue tour with his television work in a program of the Canary Islands regional television.

He has worked with directors such as Carlos Saura, Daniel Díaz Torres, Vicente Molina Foix, Jesús Bonilla and Gerardo Herrero. He adapted classic children's stories for his own company based in the Canary Islands, where he collaborates with regional television.

Sexo sentido is his latest one-man show that he just presented at the Sala Azarte in Madrid and which, together with the monologue based on Senel Paz's story, will take him back to Barcelona as the beginning of a new tour, while he prepares a premiere in Havana with actress Mirta Ibarra.

In addition, he has published two books. The solitude of the island of Tenerife and the reunion with himself has made him write, an art that he greatly respects. But it has been a learning experience that has served him to direct and stage his own shows for children about classic stories. He has done this work since always, when he was 18 years old, he worked with Mariela Castro on a child psychology project, something to which he has always given great value in his life.

In theater it is worth noting "Fresa y Chocolate", a work with which he has toured several European countries, Mexico, Venezuela and the USA and for which he was awarded the Grand Prix of the Lugano Theater Festival, Switzerland. Also "Máquina Hamblet" and "Mamá yo no soy Lola Flores" at the Grand Theater of Geneva; other of his participations are "Los Viernes del Hotel Luna Cribe", "La viuda alegre" and the opera "Cenci".

Together with actress Mirtha Ibarra he acted in and directed the work "Obsesión Habanera" and the comedy "El sexo sentido".

He has worked in various feature films, highlighting his roles in "Fresa y Chocolate", "Quiéreme y verás", "I love Baby", "Sagitario", "Buñuel y la mesa del Rey Salomón", "El oro de Moscú" and "El misterio Galíndez".

He has also participated in television series such as "Policías", "El Comisario", "Paraíso", "¿Se puede?", "Un paso adelante", "Aída", "Ana y los siete" and "Con dos tacones". It is worth noting the leading role he played in the thirteen chapters of "El inquilino" on Antena 3.

Recently, in the Canary Islands, he participated in the opera "Don Pascuale" at the Tenerife auditorium, and has just premiered his new show "La familia Japi" at the Guimerá Theater in Tenerife as well.

Currently, he is touring his shows and plays a character in the Globomedia series Mir, in Madrid.
