Jesús Benítez Rubio, dean of broadcasting in Pinar del Río and National Radio Prize 2008.
Benítez Rubio officially began working in radio in 1953, although two years earlier, in some radio stations, he was already doing substitutions as an Audio Operator, a title he obtained in 1955.
He worked at the stations CMAB, CMAL and joined, in 1958, the payroll of CMAS Cadena Occidental de Radio, where he showed an inclination for broadcasting and had his first ventures in the specialty.
In 1966 he began his career as a broadcaster and, subsequently, managed to train as an actor and program director. In all cases his artistic evaluation and performance were outstanding.
From 1969 until his retirement, Jesús Benítez Rubio honored Radio Guamá with his presence and work. He received recognition as a founder and worker of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television, obtained awards at national and provincial broadcasting festivals.
Among the distinctions of this award-winning broadcaster are, among many, the Raúl Gómez García medal, September 28, Félix Elmuza; the seals 20 years of revolutionary vigilance and laureate of the Culture Union. Additionally, he was granted the status of Artist of Merit of the ICRT, the Provincial Broadcasting Prize Violeta Casals, and the Pinareño Shield, the highest distinction awarded by the government in the western province.
He was an honorary member of the Association of Educators of Cuba, in Pinar del Río, of the National Broadcasting Academy and its honorary president in the province.
He passed away at age 84 from COVID.
