Died: January 31, 1995
Composer of Cuban popular music.
He died of a longtime illness in Alicante at the age of 74.
Born in Cienfuegos on February 20, 1920, Jesús Guerra is the author of several guarachas and boleros that gained great popularity from the late forties onward. His almost comical sense of the popular marked an era.
He delighted dancers with his creations for the type of musical group called conjunto, with a basic instrumentation of two trumpets, bass, a good rhythmic section and an efficient piano, making the bridges, counting on the voices of a soloist and a chorus of two accompanists.
Thus emerged Bigote de gato; Un meneito na`ma; Juanita Tripita (A mí qué), Tú veras, Margot; Tiburón; La bodega del Ñato, and many other hits.
In 1955, Juan Guerra traveled from Cuba to Spain with Jaime Camino's ballet.
In Italy he formed his Cuban Orchestra ChaChaChá, developing great musical activity, spreading Cuban music. In 1985 he decided to retire to Alicante, where he continued composing and making musical arrangements.
