In 1930, he was in Mexico playing bass in popular orchestras and began his career as a composer under the influence of Lara and the songwriter Eva Garza.

From this emerged a series of popular hits: "En mi memoria", "Ni novia ni luna", "Qué más da", "Solo por rencor", "No importa corazón", "Hay algo en ti", "Feliz Navidad", "Si no vuelves", "Noche y día", "Mi ocaso" (songs); "Estas como mango" (mambo); "No te quedes mirando" (Chachachá); "Rumberito soy yo" (guaracha).

He founded several musical groups in the town of Santiago de las Vegas and subsequently traveled to Mexico, where he was part of the orchestras of Gonzalo Criel, Rafael Hernández and Agustín Lara.

Recordings of his works remain in the national discography in groups such as Sonora Matancera
