In 2003 his work Canta appears, a personal anthology where he brings together a selection of texts from the poetry collections Cambio de impresiones and En carne propia and which obtains the Critics' Prize and, two years later, Nosotros, los cubanos which achieves rapid success and three editions between 2005 and 2007. The José Martí publishing house has published translations of the text in English and French.

Guillermo Rodríguez Rivera belongs to the generation of Silvio, Nogueras and Casaus. Doctor in Letters, professor of Literature at the University of Havana, Rodríguez Rivera has been at the center of the history of the new song movement thanks to his friendship with Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés and Noel Nicola, who founded that aesthetic current in the late 1960s, a position that has allowed him an almost leading knowledge of the event.

We owe to Guillermo one of the most lucid texts on Cuban identity, 'Por los caminos de la mar', where he expounds on the mysteries of popular music and the song tradition and clarifies them with his proverbial acuity and deep sensitivity. Articles, essays and album notes add to his passion for music, a passion that does not wane.

He was editor of the magazine Mella. Editor-in-Chief of Cuba, co-founder and editor-in-chief of El Caimán Barbudo and editor-in-chief of RC. He has also contributed to Bohemia, Casa de las Américas, Unión, La Gaceta de Cuba and El Mundo.
