Pardo Gómez
Died: January 19, 2023
Pardo Gómez is a Second Degree Specialist in General Surgery and Full Professor,
Son of a physician who practiced his profession in Holguín and of a housewife from a well-to-do farming family.
He began his medical studies at the "General Calixto García" University Hospital in September 1944 and graduated in October 1951, having dedicated most of his professional life to training young surgeons from different generations.
In the 1950s he obtained, through competitive examination, a position as internal physician and later resident at Calixto García, and his curriculum is thereafter enviable: internship in Chicago as a rotating intern at Michael Reese Hospital; scholarship sponsored by the British Council for King's College in London; chief of surgical services, of surgical units, subdirector and director of Calixto García and Joaquín Albarrán hospitals; internationalist missions in Nicaragua, Peru and Mexico in the 1970s… Without overlooking membership in Cuban and foreign scientific federations and societies.
He has participated in 77 national events and 30 international events, has to his credit 15 research projects and 59 publications, of which 10 are international.
But perhaps most important is his condition as a teacher, as a formator. Not without reason this Doctor of Science, Full Professor of Surgery of the faculties of La Habana, Oriente and Las Villas —architect of the program for that discipline in the Curriculum in effect since 1982—, holds the position of Consulting Professor and Professor of Merit of the Superior Institute of Medical Sciences of La Habana, and presides over the Permanent Court for Scientific Degrees in Surgical Specialties of the Ministry of Higher Education.
