He began his studies at age 7 at the "Luis Casas Romero" conservatory in Camagüey, Cuba. At age 15 he completed his piano and music theory studies.
At that same age he received the EGREM award for best musical orchestration of the annual album. He immerses himself in the renowned Jazz Plaza festivals held annually in Havana, Cuba, and thus becomes part of the bands of Leon Thomas and Dizzy Gillespie.
He performed at international jazz festivals such as: Montreaux, Montreal, Jamboree (Poland), Jazz Danube (Bratislava-Czechoslovakia), London Jazz Fest, Herkusen (Cologne-Munich-Germany), Milky Way (Amsterdam-Holland), Jazz Rue, Ciamuferon (France), Jazz Fest Ottawa, Toronto, Becomo (Canada), as well as concerts in Budapest, Madrid, Guadeloupe Islands, Martinique, Moscow, among others.
He has shared the stage with Roy Hargrove, James Carter, Chucho Valdés, Tito Puente, Fine Wine Trio, among others. It is worth noting his recent album "Mr. Many Moons," made with great figures such as Bob Sheppard, Francisco Mela, Iván Renta, Jason Palmer, Ken Basman and Agustín Bernal. He currently participates in the renowned "Afro-cuban All Stars" orchestra, directed by Juan De Marcos González, founder of "Buena Vista Social Club."
In 1985 UNEAC (Union of Cuban Writers and Artists) granted him the highest decoration and he was inscribed in the book of great personalities of Cuban music and art. He is a member of the jury and national evaluation commission of the National Institute of Music in Havana alongside Chucho Valdés, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Orlando Vistel.
