Fredi Jesús González G

He is the current manager of the Atlanta Braves in Major League Baseball, and was the mentor of the Florida Marlins from 2007 to 2010. The 4 years prior to 2007 he served as third base coach for the Atlanta Braves.

González was born in Holguín and is the son of Fredi and Caridad González. He grew up in Miami, Florida, and studied at Southridge High School. He signed with the New York Yankees in the amateur league in 1982. He served as a catcher for six years in this system and never advanced beyond the AA level. After two years as assistant coach at the University of Tennessee, he began his career as manager in 1990, with the Miami Miracle of the Florida State League.

González continued with the Miracle in 1991 until he joined the Florida Marlins organization in 1992. He was selected to be the first instructional coach of the Marlins project assigned to the Erie Sailors team in the minor leagues. González was a coach in the Marlins organization, including a period as manager in 1997 of the Portland Sea Dogs, the AA Eastern League affiliate of the Marlins; there for the first time they occupied first place in the league with a 79-63 record. He was promoted to the major leagues in 1999 as third base coach for the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

After leaving the Marlins, González was with the Richmond Braves in 2002, and moved up to the Atlanta major leagues in the 2003 season. On October 3, 2006 he was named manager of the Florida Marlins. He later was coach of the 2007 All-Star Team.

After the victory against the St. Louis Cardinals in 2010, González had won more games than any other manager in the history of the Marlins. On June 23, 2010 the Marlins fired him. He had achieved winning seasons in 2008 and 2009 despite not having a great lineup.

On October 3, 2010 he was officially named the new manager of the Atlanta Braves. On October 5, 2012 he managed his first postseason game as a manager in Major League Baseball. He later won on October 4, 2013 against the Chicago Dodgers.

His residence is located in Marietta, Georgia where he lives with his wife Pamela and his two children Gabrielle and Alex.
