Playwright, researcher, theater advisor, critic and professor born in the city of Santa Clara. Specialist in children's theater and puppet theater. Doctor in Sciences on Art and Bachelor of Performing Arts from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), Universidad de las Artes de Cuba. He is Associate Professor at ISA. In 1971 he began his career in professional theater by winning the PRIZE from the Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC) with the piece Adriana en dos tiempos.

He has published or staged theatrical texts in Cuba, Germany, Bulgaria, Ecuador, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Peru and Nicaragua.
He has taught numerous courses, workshops and lectures on theater in Cuba and also in Canada, Denmark, United States, Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Spain.
His critical and theoretical articles have appeared in Cuban publications such as Conjunto, Tablas, Revolución y Cultura, Juventud Rebelde, Granma and Trabajadores, among others, as well as in specialized publications from Costa Rica, Colombia, Spain, United States, Mexico and Argentina.
He has participated in international theater events in Europe and America. He has been a member of UNEAC since 1972. In 1989 he received the Centennial Diploma of La Edad de Oro, awarded to outstanding personalities in the field of artistic and literary creation for children and youth.
He holds the Distinction for National Culture (1995); the Abril Prize, for the significance of his work for children and youth (1998); the Diploma for Artistic Mastery, awarded by the Instituto Superior de Arte (2000); the Distinction for Cuban Education (2000) and the Alejo Carpentier Medal, awarded by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba.
In August 2007 he won the Gorgorito Prize, awarded by UNIMA Madrid (International Union of Puppeteers), with the support of the Community of Madrid and UNIMA Spain Federation. The Prize was presented on August 30, '07 in the Madrid municipality of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, coinciding with the celebration of the VI Summer School for Puppeteers, organized by UNIMA Federation and UNIMA Madrid.
