Doctor Honoris Causa in Biological Sciences from Universidad de Oriente. Professor Emeritus of the Instituto Superior de Ciencias Médicas. Specialist in Surgery, 2nd Degree. Founder and promoter of the Club of the 120 Years.

Born in the municipality of Máximo Gómez in the province of Matanzas.

Graduated as a Medical Surgeon from the Faculty of Medicine at Universidad de La Habana. Eminent medical surgeon with professional experience of more than 50 years. Full Professor at Universidad de La Habana. Was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. President of the Caribbean Medical Association (AMECA). Was for years the personal physician of President Fidel Castro.

He began his professional life as an internal medicine physician at Hospital General "Calixto García", Surgery Resident. Auxiliary Specialist in Surgery, Auxiliary Professor of Surgery at the School of Medicine in La Habana, Full Professor of Surgery, Head of Surgery Services. Assistant Dean of Teaching, Assistant Dean of Teaching and Research, Full Member of the Commission for Validation of Surgery Specialists of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), Head of the National Group of Surgery of MINSAP.

Founder of the Thoracic Surgery Service of Calixto García Hospital, Director of the School of Medicine, Collaborator in the creation of the Department of Pedagogy at the level of MINSAP. Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Founder of the Computing Center for Medical Sciences (CECAM), Founder of the Center for Experimental Surgery of the Institute of Basic and Preclinical Sciences "Victoria de Girón" of La Habana in 1968.

He transmitted his teachings to hundreds of physicians who have carried out internationalist missions. He has had an active political life and outstanding work leading the medical team of which he is head at the Teaching Hospital Calixto García, in Ciudad de La Habana.

He has presented around 200 scientific papers at Congresses and Scientific Societies and 53 papers published in scientific journals, films and videos.
