Great-great-grandson of the Matanzas creator of the danzón in the 19th century, Miguel Failde. Ethiel Fernández Failde is a flutist, arranger and director of the Miguel Failde Orchestra.

He began his first musical studies at the Vocational School of Arts "Alfonso Pérez Isaac" in the specialty of Flute (2001-2006), then entered the Conservatory of Music of Matanzas (2006-2010) and continued his studies at the Higher Institute of Art (2012-2016). Student of maestro Floraimed Fernández, he has received master classes from flutist María Gabriela Rodríguez (2012) current Soloist of the OSN of Venezuela and Director of the CAMERATA National of Flute of that country.

Awards
He has obtained important prizes in the different interpretation competitions held at the elementary and upper middle levels, such as the "Amadeo Roldán" competitions obtaining the First Prize and Grand Prize. Graduated with the Gold Title from the Conservatory of Music of Matanzas, he has given small format concerts, chamber music at festivals such as Young Musicians sponsored by the OSM and Breaking the Routine of the UNEAC obtaining important laurels.

Together with his Typical Orchestra, he received recognition from outstanding figures of the Cuban musical staff such as Orlando Vistel (President of the ICM), Abel Acosta (Vice-Minister of Culture), Ildefonso Acosta (concert soloist, composer and arranger), Rafael Lay (director of Aragón), Guillermo González Camejo "Rubalcaba" (pianist and Director of the Rubalcaba orchestra) among others and from the "Rafael Somavilla" Composition and Performance Festival obtaining prize for best performance, composition and direction (2010).

He performed a concert as a soloist with the OSM in January 2009 under the direction of Maestro Ester González Tristá. He premiered a dance triptych for flute and piano "In the Armchair", "Stained Glass" and "The Town Crier" by emerging composer Alejandro Falcón in 2011 and "Song without Words" for string quintet and flute by Yoan Otaño in 2013, all as a solo flutist.

Cataloged as the youngest Director of the Island, he takes on the direction of the Miguel Failde Typical Orchestra, current Miguel Failde Orchestra, which was in charge of the premiere of the danzon "The Eyes of Johanna" in 2010 by Juan José Rodríguez composition prize that year, "A Danzón for Ethiel" in 2011 by Ildefonso Acosta at Cuba Danzón that year along with Monserrate by Alejandro Falcón, in addition to the Danzón "Baroquing" by Yoan Otaño in 2012, and achieving the professionalization of the orchestra in February 2012.

He worked as a flute teacher at the EVA "Alfonso Pérez Isaac" for one year (2008-2009). He also served as flute teacher of the Conservatory of Music of Matanzas from September 2010 to June 2015, was director of the Ventú string orchestra, flutist of the OSM (2010-2014) and of the Occasional Quintet alongside prestigious musicians such as Héctor E. Herrera (Pepo), Jorge Luis Cabrera, Mildred Garcell, Yanay Suárez.

Trajectory
This young flutist creator and director of the Miguel Failde Orchestra (4/14/2012-to date) has performed chamber music works in various formats: flute and piano by composers such as J. S Bach, P. Hindemith, A. Falcón, J. López-Marín, from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern and Contemporary periods among others; for two flutes and cello "Trio I and II" by J. Haydn, "Latin American Suite" by Alberto Corrales; flute, cello and piano by Latin American composers such as Santiago Báez, for flute and clarinet by Andrés Eloy Rodríguez, Heitor Villa-Lobos, as well as for trio, quartet, quintet of woodwind and duos, quartets, octets of flutes in addition to works for string quintet and flute.

As a symphonic musician he performed as first flute of the Youth Orchestra of the Conservatory interpreting works by various composers and performing at symphonic orchestra meetings 2007-2008 that were held at the Teatro Amadeo Roldán. During the third year of his studies at the Conservatory he performs the piccolo from Scheherezade by N. Rimski-Korsakov (2008) and the Fourth Symphony by P.I Tchaikovski.

He has been conducted under the baton of the Masters: Enrique Pérez Mesa (director OSN), Eduardo Díaz Rodríguez (director of the lyric theater of Havana), Marc Moncusí (Spanish director). He participated in the recording of the phonogram "Memories" by Ildefonso Acosta with the work South American Air (solo flutist) in May 2012 and "Cuba now Danzón. Alejandro Falcón" in October 2011 with the danzón Monserrate (director and flutist of the Miguel Failde Orchestra) at the prestigious ABDALA studios.

Together with his Orchestra, he participated by contributing a musical work "I Remember You" from the phonogram "Reasons Abound" under the Colibrí label. He participated as a flutist in the recording of the song "With a Little Love" by Silvio Rodríguez at the studios of 1st and 18, Miramar of the EGREM label under the production of AHS in 2015. On May 17, 2016 during the International CubaDisco Fair he released his phonogram "Arrived the Failde" nominated in the categories "Traditional Popular Music" and "Debut Album".

First Album that will gather the arduous work that he has been leading together with his emerging and talented group. Under the EGREM record label and the production of Maestro Joaquín Betancourt, recording, mixing and mastering by Eng. Osvaldo Padrón González and the musical direction of Ethiel Failde himself rises this young and consolidated project where in its 12 tracks grants a privileged place to the danzón, a genre that governs and unifies its repertoire and aesthetic proposal, as it constitutes the driving force of the group's work. This brings together a line of work followed with the purpose of developing a danzón practice from young people. The album records classics of the danzón repertoire re-orchestrated from the orchestra's aesthetic proposal in the hands of young Failde; as well as danzon of more recent creation, some of them composed especially for the group.

Criticism
It has been well received by the press media critics reflected in articles such as: "A Failde that Promises" from 2010, "Danzón: Good News" (2013), "The Danzón Returns to the Athens of Cuba" (11/14/2013), "Failde's Great-Great-Grandson Rescues the Danzón" by the National newspaper "Juventud Rebelde", "Cuban music has young blood" from the weekly "Vanguardia" both in 2014, "The Magic of Good Music" (12/31/2015) from the Weekly Girón, "Miguel Failde Orchestra: New Concepts, Contemporary Sounds" From the National newspaper "Granma", "Danzonero with Pride of Being Cuban" Radio Ciudad Habana, "Contemporaneity and Tradition in the Failde Orchestra" from The Window (Information Portal of Casa de las Américas) among others. Other provincial and national television and press outlets have recorded programs on National TV including: "Parenthesis", "Youth Spark", "Music and More", "23 and M", "Midday on TV", "Afternoon at Home", "Young Size". He completed his Social Service as a flutist of the OSM and as a professor of the Conservatory of Music of Matanzas for five years. Since 2013 he has been teaching didactic classes for the Cuban Cultural Tourism Agency Paradiso.

In the concerts he performs with his orchestra, he has shared the stage with prestigious Cuban musicians such as: Guillermo Ruvalcaba, Orlando Valle "Maraca", Pancho Amat, César López, Alejandro Falcón, Alberto Corrales, Jorge Luis Pacheco, Yasek Manzano, Adel González, Enrique Álvarez.

Other Activities
Ethiel Failde serves as President and creator of the International Danzonero Meeting "Miguel Failde In Memoriam" which held its first edition from March 30 to April 3, 2016 in the Cradle of Danzón and Athens of Cuba, his native Matanzas, he is also Musical director of the work "A Love Story in a Baroque Neighborhood" made up of William Vivanco, Theater of the Seasons and musicians of the Miguel Failde Orchestra, and as if that were not enough, this young enthusiast hosts a radio program dedicated to promoting and disseminating our National Dance (the Danzón) on Radio Taíno frequencies under the name "Danzonizing, with Ethiel Failde" Saturdays at 1:30pm Cuba time.
