Encarnación de Armas Medina

Poet and teacher of many people from Jaruco who respect and admire her. Licensed in Primary Teaching, having worked as a teacher for more than 30 years and Founder of Radio Jaruco Station.

Native of Majana, Jaruco, province of La Habana.

She works writing poetry, décima, narrative, essay and literature for children. She writes and advises the rural program Fiesta en la Cooperativa on Radio Jaruco Station. She gives readings of poetic works at events, festivals, cultural gatherings, improviser events and literature events at the municipal and provincial levels. She has participated as a judge in Cucalambeanas events and competitions of municipal, provincial and national improvisers.

She participates in activities of different cultural institutions in the municipality as well as in other municipalities of the province of La Habana and other provinces such as: Museums, Bookstores and Cultural Centers. She has stood out in her participation in events and festivals among which we can mention: XII Festival of Caribbean Culture in Santiago de Cuba, the Provincial Meeting of Writers in San José de las Lajas and the Union of Décima Writers at the Ibero-American Festival and literary workshop meetings Radio Jaruco, Radio Camoa, Radio Cadena Habana, Radio Progreso, Radio 26 and Radio Rebelde.

She has participated in the events of the Municipal Forum of Science and Technique, as well as ANIR at the provincial level. Her poetry adorns every year the Municipal symposium "Asalto e Incendio de Jaruco".

Her presence has been distinguished at the International Book Fair on the Day of Havana Authors held at Cabaña in 2010 and Table Readings for children. At Cuba Disco 2010 and at the National UNEAC Gathering.

She works continuously with the Municipal Education Department as a tutor for emerging first-grade teachers.

She belongs to several institutions among which stand out: The Silvestre Group of Balboa of Casa Canarias, the Décima Group of "Alamar", the Woman and Poetry Project of the province of La Habana, the Association of Pedagogues of Cuba, the Cuban Association Friends of the Book, the Nicolás Guillén Foundation and the José Martí Cultural Society.

Her national publications stand out in the Newspaper El Habanero, Panorama Magazine, Iris Magazine, Cuban Décimas Magazine, Isleño Bulletin Canarian Association and municipal and provincial publications.

She also has foreign publications in the Universal Magazine of Mexico in 1992 with "Plegable Mujer" and "La Llave de Cristal y Espuma", in the El indio de Jurama Magazine of Spain with "Décimas Flores de Ronda" and Children's Poetry and in the Azahar Magazine of Spain in 2007.

Awards Received
She has received the following awards: Prize El CONDAL from the Jaruco Printing House Prose in 1944, Diploma from the Provincial Center of Amateur Artists and Havana Cultural Center, ICRT for 10 years working in the Anochecer Campesino program, from the Association of Writers of UNEAC in 1991, for the 30 years of Radio Jaruco Station, from the Martiana Chair of Jaruco, from the Arab Union of Cuba, for her participation in the IX ABDALA literature prize in 2007 and those awarded by the different mass and political organizations such as the PCC, the CDRs, ANAP, FMC, where she received the medal for permanence in this organization.

She received the Distinction as an Illustrious Daughter of the City of Jaruco awarded by OLPP in 1996, the Sealed Stamp of SNTC, Certificates for participation in the First Woman and Poetry Colloquium of UNEAC in 2005, Recognition from the Provincial Management of the Association of Writers of Cuba for her participation in the "Che 80" Contest in 2008, prizes in radio festival programs and the grand prize "For a Lifetime of Work" Pupila Insomne in 2005.
