Eduardo Primelles Agramonte

Died: July 24, 1942

He was commissioned with the rank of captain, cousin of Frank Agramonte, one of the many dental surgeons who participated in the wars of independence.

He was born in New York. He was the son of Benjamín Primelles Socarrás and Angelina Agramonte Piña, sister of Frank's father.

He began his primary studies in his native city. He returned to Cuba when the Ten Years' War ended and completed his secondary studies. He enrolled in the school for dental surgeons run by Florencio Cancio; at that institution he acquired the skills and knowledge to be examined at the University of La Habana and obtain the corresponding degree of dental surgeon.

When war broke out on February 24, 1895, he tried to advance his examinations at the University in order to go to the insurrectional field to fight for the independence of the homeland. Rector Joaquín Lastre agreed, but the Governor did not grant him that authorization to be examined. A new certificate from doctor Antonio Jover, stating that the young Primelles was in grave danger (of health), prompted the Governor to agree to his examination on May 9, 1895. Primelles managed to take his examinations between July 1 and 3.

On May 18, 1909, he married his cousin Angelina Agramonte Agramonte, with whom he had 2 children: Emilia and Eduardo Benjamín.

He practiced for very little time in the city of Bayamo, as he began to establish the necessary contacts to go to the countryside. He succeeded in joining the Liberation Army on February 28, 1896, in the Military Health Service with the rank of lieutenant, given his status as a graduated professional.

He remained in the war until February 24, 1898, the date on which he was commissioned with the rank of captain.

After the war ended, he practically abandoned the practice of his dental profession. On January 14, 1899, he entered the Police Corps with the rank of lieutenant, where he remained until July 21, 1920; there he retired with the rank of captain.
