Eduardo Morales Morales

Died: February 22, 1938

An artist dedicated to landscape painting, especially those scenes where horse-drawn carriages or quitrines could be featured, which he executed with correct draftsmanship and pleasant coloring.

This artist studied at the Academy of Painting and Sculpture of San Alejandro, where he was a student of Sanz Carta.

When the War of Independence began in 1895, he left his training to join the struggle for freedom. Once the struggle ended, he joined the police force and devoted himself to painting in his free time; after his retirement he dedicated his life to capturing the charms of urban and rural scenes of Cuba on his canvases.

Various contests and exhibitions earned him public praise, who enjoyed the meticulousness of his draftsmanship.

He participated in the first Fine Arts salons held in La Habana, where he achieved critical acclaim. His work Volanta was part of the historic exhibition Three Hundred Years of Art in Cuba. The painting Carretas (1912) was included in the exhibition Spanish and Cuban Paintings of the 19th Century, in Salamanca, Spain in 1999.
