Diana
At age 3, she began taking ballet classes at Pro-Danza of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba. In 1992, she enrolled in the Elementary Level Music School "Alejandro García Caturla". She graduated in the specialties of basic piano and choral direction, and had the privilege of being a student of singing teachers Carmen Rosa López, María Caridad Valdés, Carmen Piñeiro and María Eugenia Barrios.
She joined as a soloist the Coro Diminuto, directed by Professor Carmen Rosa López, a group with which she participated in several editions of the International Choir Festival Santiago de Cuba and in recordings of prestigious figures such as Harold Gramatges, Roberto Valera, the Moncada group and others.
She began her professional career in 2001, at age 16, as a member of Grupo Síntesis, participating in all concerts and national and international tours of the prestigious group. In 2006, she joined the new band of troubadour Carlos Varela, with whom she had already been collaborating for more than 2 years.
She has participated in the recording and production of phonographic recordings (as a soloist and choir member) of important figures and groups, including: Síntesis, X Alfonso, Amaury Pérez, Roberto Carcassés, Aldo López Gavilán, Free Hole Negro, Aceituna sin Hueso, Ogguere, David Torrens and William Vivanco. Her voice appears on the soundtrack of the Cuban film "Miel para Ochún" and in the documentary "Vida de Alberto Korda". She was also part of the recording project "Women are beautiful" produced by Roberto Carcassés, alongside Yusa, Haydee Milanés, Omara Portuondo and Beatriz Márquez. In addition, she performed as a soloist alongside major figures in Cuban music such as Pablo Milanés, Silvio Rodríguez, Amaury Gutiérrez, Mayito Rivera, Carlos Varela, David Torrens and Kelvis Ochoa.
In January 2007, she began her solo career under the production of Descemer Bueno and with the collaboration of musicians such as Carlos Varela, Kelvis Ochoa and Esteban Puebla. That same year, she won the Grand Prize of the "Adolfo Guzmán" Competition for her performance of the work "Decirte cosas de amor", while her video clip "Música de fondo" received several awards at the 2007 Lucas Awards.
In 2008, her debut phonographic album was released, the very successful CD "Amargo pero Dulce" (EGREM label), winner of the 2010 Cubadisco Award in the Pop Music category. On this album, Diana fully displays her vocal and expressive abilities within the pop genre, performing songs by Carlos Varela, Descemer Bueno and her own compositions.
She has also worked as an actress in Latin American cinema. In 2009, she participated alongside Carlos Varela's band in the fabulous concert "Paz sin Fronteras" convened by Juanes in La Habana.
She belongs to a family of professionals—there are doctors, engineers—but very devoted to art, they are fanatics and loyal followers of Síntesis since its inception.
She listens to a lot of music and doesn't set limits for herself; music has infinite branches, and from each genre or performer, she draws something interesting. Her favorite singers are Erykah Badu, Ellis Regina, María Rita, Billie Holiday, Elena Burke, Gema Corredera, Alicia Keys.
She loves to dance; she is an admirer and enthusiast of dance, which is where her true beginnings come from. She always tries to participate in some dance course. She attends many performances of Ballet Nacional, Contemporary Dance of Cuba, Danza Abierta.
In 2013, Diana Fuentes is about to launch her new CD Planeta Planetario, following the finalization of her contract with Sony Music. The official site of this production company in Argentina has stated that Fuentes' new album is original, complete and explores a wide range of sounds and colors. "These have been times of much hard work. For the public that has followed me throughout all these previous years, it has been a long wait, but I am fully convinced that everything comes in its time. I am very happy with the final result. It is an album that marks a period in my life of many changes, most of them positive," Diana told the Sony Music press.
Eduardo Cabra, the album's producer and Diana Fuentes' husband, stated: "Personally, it was a discovery of many Cuban sounds. Like in every country, when you have the time you can immerse yourself in its musical tradition and in the end you dimension and add many new elements to your musical knowledge".
In 2013, the artist won the Cubadisco award in the category of Text Musicalization and Best Audiovisual Concert, enriching with her powerful voice the production Up into the Silence, with poetry by E.E. Cummings musicalizing by Sue Herrod.
Diana and Eduardo Cabra had their first son, Marcel, at the end of 2013.
